The Jomsom Muktinath Trek is a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural immersion, and spiritual significance in the Annapurna region. Following the Kali Gandaki Valley – the world’s deepest gorge – this trek takes you to the sacred Muktinath Temple, one of the most important pilgrimage sites for both Hindus and Buddhists. The journey offers dramatic landscapes from the windy, arid terrains of the upper Mustang region to lush rhododendron forests, combined with rich cultural experiences in traditional Thakali and Gurung villages. The trek is particularly famous for its apple orchards, natural hot springs, and spectacular views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and Annapurna ranges.

Day 1 :

Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m)

Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, transfer to hotel, trek briefing, and equipment check. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 2 :

Kathmandu to Pokhara (915m)

Scenic 6-7 hour drive or 25-minute flight to Pokhara. Explore Lakeside area and enjoy views of Phewa Lake with Annapurna range backdrop. Overnight in Pokhara.

Day 3 :

Fly to Jomsom (2,713m) & Trek to Kagbeni (2,810m)

Spectacular 20-minute flight between mountain peaks to Jomsom. Begin trek following Kali Gandaki River to Kagbeni, gateway to Upper Mustang.

Day 4 :

Early trek to Poon Hill, Back to Ghorepani and Trek to Tadapani

Gradual climb through arid landscape to Muktinath, one of the highest temples in the world. Visit the 108 water sprouts and eternal flame.

Day 5 :

Muktinath to Marpha (2,613m)

Morning exploration of Muktinath complex, then descend to Marpha through Jharkot village. Marpha is famous for its apple orchards and traditional architecture.

Day 6 :

Marpha to Larjung (2,512m)

Continue descent through Kali Gandaki Valley, passing through Tukuche with views of Dhaulagiri Icefall. Reach Larjung with its ancient tunnels.

Day 7 :

Larjung to Ghasa (2,013m)

Descend through pine forests, passing through Lete and Kalopani with stunning mountain views. Ghasa marks the southern limit of Tibetan culture.

Day 08 :

Ghasa to Tatopani (1,179m)

Steep descent to Tatopani (meaning "hot water"), where you can relax in natural hot springs by the river.

Day 09 :

Tatopani to Shikha (1920m)

Gradual climb through terraced fields and villages, leaving the Kali Gandaki Valley. Enjoy changing vegetation and climate.

Day 10 :

Shika to Ghorepani (2,810m)

Steep climb through rhododendron forests to Ghorepani, a Magar village offering panoramic mountain views.

Day 11 :

Poon Hill Sunrise & Trek to Tikhedhunga (1577m)

Early morning hike to Poon Hill (3,210m) for spectacular sunrise over Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges. Descend through Ulleri to Tikhedhunga.

Day 12 :

Trek to Nayapul & Drive to Pokhara

Short descent to Nayapul, then drive to Pokhara. Celebrate trek completion with farewell dinner at Lakeside.

Day 13 :

Pokhara to Kathmandu

Drive or fly back to Kathmandu. Free afternoon for shopping or exploring Thamel. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 14 :

Kathmandu Sightseeing

Full day sightseeing including UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Patan Durbar Square.

Day 15 :

Final Departure

Transfer to airport for international departure.

How fit do I need to be to do this trek?

Annapurna Base Camp is a Grade B or a moderately difficult trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will too, you can.

How long do we walk every day when doing Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

On average, you walk about 4 to 6 hours per day. One or two days can be as less as 3hrs and one or two days can be as long as 7hrs.

What is the highest altitude reached in this trek?

The highest altitude reached is 4190m. This is the elevation of Annapurna Base Camp. ABC is the highest we will climb in this trek.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. Charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. You may have to pay a certain amount for both ($1-$2). Negotiate. Also, a hot water facility could be free at a lower elevation.

Are there ATMs on the way to Annapurna Base Camp?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. The Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. The Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire Guides/trekking agency for Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during the offseason.

It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For the Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.
